It was also good to discuss the railway's plans to extend operations from Bodiam west to Robertsbridge. At Northiam there is an excellent visual map showing what that will mean.

Photo in previous post is the 1882 Saxby & Farmer 1882 signal box from Deal Jct, now controlling train movements at Wittersham Rd on @KandESRailway where I was yesterday. During WW2 a railway gun was based in the goods yard - it only fired once but when it did, it broke all windows at the station!

Came back to York from Eaglescliffe which I am pleased to see will soon be served by the Advanced Passenger Train in the artwork for the new AfA Footbridge. Back to the Future! And I have since been told that a real APT did once pass through the station.

Second best feature is that the contractors - CPB - sourced a working set of pay-scales as one of the original b&w photos featured a similar set. For the princely sum of 1pm you can weigh yourself once more at Clapton Station. Tell me that’s not customer service.

The best feature is the electrical switch room where you can press a button and it lights up to show you the switchgear - you don’t get much more niche than this.

There is also a very pretty hut which used to be the entrance kiosk for those visiting the abbey ruins.

Interestingly it is not identified as a railway building in the Historic England listing description although this has been corrected in the Missing Pieces comments section by local resident Bob Pointing.

Stoney Rd Gardens Coventry - the boundary wall before and after restoration, and one of the summer houses before restoration.
