It isn’t just a line on a map. It’s a corridor that naturally connects our neighborhoods, our beaches, our shops, and the daily life of this county. That’s why it makes so much sense to build a trail and transit system around it.

So when people say rail and trail cost too much, remember that we already pay for transportation. The question is what kind we choose to invest in. Rail and Trail keeps that investment in our own community, creating less traffic, cleaner air, and more ways to get around Santa Cruz County.

State and Federal grants are still available for rail, including the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail program which was recently expanded to $5 billion.

Phasing: We don’t need to do everything at once. Start with repairs and visible projects like the Capitola Trestle and the trail in Watsonville.
