A passage about how middle class technocratic attitudes are utilised in service of politics in ‘The Backstage of Democracy’, a fascinating book.

This reminds me: 25 years ago, in a land far away, Indian officials wondered if an identification card would help identify unauthorised migrants. From my book THE NEW INDIA.

Four years after South Korea gave us Squid Game, I’m sending some of my own dystopian survival thriller horror their way.

THE NEW INDIA is out this week in South Korea, published by Geulhangari.

Thrilled. So, so thrilled.

Highly recommend this smashing book by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social. It’s not just about America, but about how capitalism everywhere works.

Six pages in, and I’m in love with Ruchir Joshi’s epic GREAT EASTERN HOTEL. A few things I’ve been this excited about:

- waiting in a dark hall for DDLJ to begin
- the moments before ind v pak in Bangalore, ‘96
- the first day of summer break, when I could play Monkey Island freely.

I’m so happy to see this book in the world, and so struck by Mehak Jamal’s subversive work – a series of love stories that together reveal the truth of Kashmir.

I’m not going to pretend that seeing the various author copies side by side for a brief moment before they’re given away isn’t a giant thrill.

Great. Bonus points for top-notch evisceration of Wired, technocracy, and the joyless endeavour to turn imagination and individuality into flattened data.

The Financial Express *really* likes the book. (The book is titled ‘The New India’ in the US, where it will release tomorrow, November 12th.) www.financialexpress.com/life/lifesty...
