Queer human. She/her. Unapologetically myself and learning every day. Born with fire in my veins and a yearning for justice. Equity minded. Smart as hell. Freaking hilarious.
7) In an attempt to help us have the best life possible, our medical professionals go ahead with what is "covered". No one wants to commit insurance fraud. Our medical care isn't decided by our doctors. It is decided by rich people in conference rooms who only want more money.

6) We pay for health insurance so they can tell our healthcare workers, who are professionals and studied medicine, what treatments they will give because the best route of treatment was denied coverage. A vast majority of us cannot afford to pay for the treatment out of pocket.

5) They were denying my radiation treatment. The letter said the treatment was not supported in the literature. I knew that was a lie. But not everyone would. My oncologist had someone in their office whose job it was to deal with insurance companies to get coverage for treatment.

4) Health insurance in the US is not about health. It is about money. It is about profit. The roadblocks prevent early treatment planning. They frustrate patients and families. The roadblocks are there in hopes that we will give up. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I received a letter of denial.

3) A PET scan is great for cancer detection. You would think it would be the go-to when a pathology report discusses abnormal cells. Instead, insurance companies make medical professionals jump through hoops and order xrays and ultrasounds and CT scans. These roadblocks are purposeful.

2) Even with health insurance, families have to file for bankruptcy due to bills for things like chemotherapy and radiation. For surgeries and hospital stays. I think the saying "health is wealth" fits well. You don't get to be healthy here unless you are wealthy.

1) I hear people discussing health insurance in the U.S. and there are so many references to the word coverage. Denial of coverage for this procedure or that test. But in this country, a denial of coverage is a denial of medical care.

I'm not sure what my cats are up to, but they keep taking weird things. I just found my razor. I'm still not sure where several sets of nail clippers are. Should I be concerned? 😂
