Haul from last weekend: petrified wood from Dobell Ranch in northern AZ. Located right outside the Petrified Forest, bring your own shovel and bucket. When we were there, someone had found an entire tree the day before, and they were excavating it. We were happy to get these fragments!

Maybe this will ensure that humans will get more of them this year than the birds do. #gardening

Same. Though I also don't like nuggets and hot dogs.

I may try to stitch it in, but it's going to be a major pain to stitch fairly heavy leather to heavy felt, so glue first. Once all that is done, the hatband will be another old necktie (I need to get a small buckle to sew to the cut end), and I'll trim it with some dyed pheasant feathers. /4

It came partially pounced, and I don't think I need to pounce it much more for what I want. The color I wanted only came in one size, which is a bit too large for me, so I am adding a sizer/sweatband. Once the leather glue holding it to the hat has dried, I'll fold it up and glue it to itself: /3

and the hat vendors at my local faire are mostly either cavalier style, Viking style, or Victorian/steampunk. So I decided to make one. I got a rabbit felt Western hat blank, held it over a pot of boiling water till I could do some basic blocking (I don't have a block, so VERY basic.) 2/

Harrisia cactuses in bloom. This would have been much more impressive if I had caught it three hours earlier. This was taken at 10 AM, and they're already starting to close. These are clones of one I got from my mom in the 80s, which was a clone of one we had when I was a kid, 1/ #gardening

So our oldest cat is hyperthyroid, and he's going to the vet oncologist for radioactive iodine treatment. Our vet says the procedure itself has a very high success rate, and I would rather pay out the nose now than fight to get pills down this throat every day for the next five to seven years.

Some kind of confrontation going on. I'm too far away to see what it was but they're telling people not to engage unless they're on the security team, and a couple of state trooper cars just rolled in.

One green onion I've been waiting to bolt forever so I can get seeds, tomatoes, grapes (unimpressive but technically blooming) and a decorative gourd of some kind.
