Yeah, this is a pretty easy one to check independently. Plus, you can verify the games are on default settings for comparison.

Lack of experience and engagement with the style of game is readily fixable, but being open-minded enough to accept you might be wrong is the hard part!

Compare the international versions of various Konami games with the Japanese ones — almost all of them have the difficulty and rank systems fucked with to increase credit churn. It’s fascinating when you really study it instead of accepting a “truism” uncritically.

case in point: It took me about three days and 2000 yen in credits (20ish plays) to get a 1-All 1cc on Batsugun Special, which isn’t an “easy” game but isn’t particularly hard for its genre, either. I’m not preternaturally good at shooters, it’s just a game that rewards the player for learning!

since a game that is Complete Bullshit won’t draw in as much money as a game you can learn.

That’s probably why SNK games saved the bullshit for the last boss, instead of 3 fights in. :p

Words like “fair” and “balanced” don’t apply here in the US, where games were either outright designed to be bullshit or got turned into bullshit in localization.
