I always liked the theory that Bond is a code name rather than a specific individual. Therefore it doesn’t matter what happened to Craig, he’s dead or retired, just like the previous incarnations. “The old Bond is dead, long live the new Bond”. It’s such an easy get out, they’d be dumb to ignore
