"Little Billy Biter" is a traditional colloquial nickname for the blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), particularly used in the South West of England. This name is not based on extensive folklore, but rather on the bird's specific defensive behaviour.
Today's watercolour sketch.

Another memory from the Mersey Estuary, this time a winter scene with an atmospheric sky. The tide had not long gone out, leaving behind pools of water reflecting the light.

Good morning. Apparently the lads call this the 'so near, so far' pose... I just call it posing where I sit 😏. Take care and have a peaceful day.

Today's little watercolour sketch. I don't know what I think of it, but I'm leaving it as it is. At least for now. Take care and have a good day.

When the War is over and the sword at last we sheathe,
I'm going to keep a jelly-fish and listen to it breathe.
When the War is over and we've finished up the show,
I'm going to plant a lemon-pip and listen to it grow. ~A.A.Milne #RemembranceSunday

I'm just popping by with one of the watercolour sketches I did this week. I've popped it in a mount and frame, and it measures approximately 14x11". It's a one of a kind piece and I'm asking £45 plus £5 p&p in the UK. Send a DM if interested as the shop hasn't reopened.

In Celtic mythology, the wren was considered a sacred and prophetic bird by the Druids, who called it "Drui" meaning "The Druid among Birds". It was associated with the Celtic god of thunder, Taranis, which connected the bird to thunder and lightning, and by extension, fire.

In Norse mythology, the robin was considered a "storm-cloud bird" and was sacred to Thor, the god of thunder. Its association was due to the robin's territorial nature, especially defending its territory relentlessly, which was seen as similar to the power of lightning and storms.

In Celtic lore, the robin is said to have brought fire to the people. Some legends associate the robin with the god Lugh, who is seen as a personification of fire and light. The robin is said to have brought fire to the people, earning its red breast in the process.

It's almost done! And I've been busy too - quick sketch of a badger. Editing will resume soon.

The connection between Brigid (both the Celtic goddess and the Christian saint) and badgers stems from folklore surrounding the festival of Imbolc (February 1st/2nd). Badgers are associated with the tradition of weather prognostication at the beginning of spring.

Saint Mungo is strongly associated with robins due to a legend where he miraculously brought a dead robin back to life. This story is a part of the four legends on the coat of arms of Glasgow, a city he founded, making him a patron saint of Glasgow.
