Battle on Bunker and Breeds hills 250 years ago today
Gage surveys the positions with a spyglass as a Bostonian tells him he recognizes the front-line commander as his former brother-in-law, William Prescott. “Will he fight?” Gage asks. “Yes, sir,” he’s told. “He’s an old soldier, and will fight as long as a drop of blood remains in his veins.” 5/5

“Jazz grew up in a thousand places but it was born in New Orleans.” 🎺

Jazz originated in Congo Square—the only place in New Orleans where enslaved people were allowed to gather.

Bonus Hollander POTD Randolph Keys. Southern Miss F was drafted 22nd by CLE in 88. Couldn't break into rotation & was traded to CHA in 90 where he put up 10 ppg. Didn't stick & played mostly in Europe thru 99. Returned to NBA in 95-96 w/LAL & MIL. Last Laker pre-Kobe to wear 8.

🌟 Honoring Purvis Short 🌟

Hattiesburg’s own Purvis Short made his mark at Blair High School, leading them to a state title in 1974 before becoming a Jackson State legend & NBA star. A scoring machine with a signature high-arching jumper, he later helped athletes beyond the game.

New Orleans trivia:

New Orleans was the first city in the U.S. not in the original colonies to break into the top ten for population. It was the third U.S. city to reach 100,000 in population. It peaked at #3 (just behind Baltimore) in 1840. It remained in the top 10 from 1810-1880.
