Yeah, that's weird.

Ah of course.

624/20, apparently, which is also what I would have done

There was a ballot initiative this year, but unfortunately like most referenda in Italy it didn't get a quorum.

Unfortunately the current setup is a lot less interesting than what they had until about a year ago, in my opinion, but it's still a fantastic collection.

The station you want is Pompei (Pompei Scavi is a bus stop, I think) and the direct train is only on Saturdays.

I should probably try to do some simple models with point mass connected by ideal springs to see how it works there (it would be a good exercise for one of my classes this semester), I don't think I'll get to it today though.

You get a lot of information that way, but the effect of the mass distribution is mixed up with all the interactions between different pieces of the box in a way I don't think it's possible to untangle.

(though you do get other information about the composition which is probably more interesting)
March 7, 2025 at 8:51 AM
You don't get the mass distribution that way, though.

If it's not rigid things are more complicated but I'm pretty sure you'll never get the full mass distribution.

No, assuming you mean forces in the sense I think. Assuming the arrangement of the mass is rigid (i.e. the distribution of the mass is fixed) you can only measure the mass, position of the center of mass, and moments of inertia that way.

Plenty, if I'm interpreting this right:

Track, rather (pair of rails).
