Boiling down to: is it possible to use expo and have a painless "off boarding" should they choose to either paywall or change licensing model to something absurd later on (similar to Unity)?

My main fear is that it's hiding *a lot* of complexity behind a free(-ish?) product that can become paid as soon as the benefactors decide to make a profit.

Ah, that's a different question altogether IMO: Both React (with Vercel's Next.js) and React Native (with Expo) are really opinionated to direct new users to use these third-party frameworks (both of which have paid components).

I've always avoided it as much as possible because I'm under the impression that it becomes sort of an "unremovable" dependency (that is managed by someone other than FB/React Native itself). Am I wrong? (really not used to RN, so genuine question)
