There's a lot of discussion about the Pacific heatwave, and it's good, but check out the Norwegian-Barents-Kara Sea heatwave 🫥 BTW, the great Climate Pulse application has just become even more handy, useful, and beautiful after a little redesign. 🤩

The records observed in the past years were often “so striking that we’ve occasionally had to stop and triple check the data to make sure it was accurate” says scientist J. Nicolas.
Very nice @data.ft.com piece about this 🤩 viz with

The amazing spread of feels-like temperatures and temperatures during nights in the middle of the Sahara 🤩

Feels-like vs Surface temperature for cold stress. The Alps, with extreme changes during the day. Inland Valencia, in Spain, can feel really cold. Burgos, in the Spanish plain, can feel extremely cold.

I lived in Lyon for +15 years, during which I had the feeling that summers were becoming increasingly unbearable. Is that true? Yes. #heatstress #climate

One example. My birthplace, Madrid. It can get very hot, but it's also at an altitude of 700 m., so tropical nights used to be quite rare. In the last decade, Madrid is nearing 20 tropical nights per year, with some years reaching 40 nights. thermaltrace.climate.copernicus.eu?agg=yearly&a...

Pointe du Raz, Britanny, France. Home of the Raz de Sein, a dangerous stretch feared by sailors for its tidal currents (visible in the photo, at descending tide). Never seen something like that before. All the fierce power of the ocean in that little corner of the world.

Finally, after a couple/ three MONTHS, today I've put my poncho back in the bike pannier. Still, one sees how thirsty the forests are... They need much more.

Anyway, this is part of the longer-term trend, I guess. Fewer wet days, more heavy and very heavy rain 👁️ atlas.climate.copernicus.eu/atlas

Sebastiao Salgado was one of the reasons that made me become a journalist. His book Gold left an indelible impression in that 8’ish year old. Additionally, he was a beautiful human being. But I guess you can’t make such an impressive work without being it. Thank you maestro ❤️
