Wishing everyone a much better 2025 than they are expecting.

Saw this bloke at a party spraying perfume everywhere. I think he was just trying to be the scenter of attention.

The driver does not look sufficiently qualified to me, but I am not going to say anything.

This appears not to have been a genuine AI system, but just a software program loosely leveraging rudimentary machine learning analytics.

The problems coming down the track from real AI systems will be much worse and potentially impossible for humans to deal with - legally or otherwise.

And @bsky.app bluesky just went past 20m users...

I just locked up my X account.

"Musk's big idea seems to have been to take Twitter and the turn it into Truth Social."

I think somebody said that a few years ago and now it turns out they were correct.

@bsky.app Bluesky is becoming the new, global town square.

It was going to be a progress update on the sink, but somehow has turned into a status update on #AI capabilities.

Not posting often at present, but when I am it is on here.

Working very, very slowly on a pet #AI superalignment project. It was *nearly* research funded by openAI before they shut their superalignment team (shortlisted but dumped) - but now distracted.

I look forward to your posts.

No pressure.

Bluesky is actually starting to feel like Twitter was before the sink.

Let that sink... erm...

One signal that we are moving to a world where #AI sits above humans is that copyright work from humans will not be considered protected... a bit like we might treat works created by chickens.

In the new world, we are the chickens.

With recent #AI developments, it is now possible to have a decent, open source, multimodal AI operating standalone at home...

...and have it trainable.

Imagine where we might be in 12 months.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #1,147,516!

Yay

Archaeologists unearth an ancient, clay statue believed to be the origin of the 🤡 emoticon.

(They didn't BTW - it is just a piece of #AI imagery.)

On X Twitter likes are now "private"...

It's not privacy — it's a subtle, insidious move designed to make users less inhibited.

People are encouraged to share more unconstrained inner insights, all while tech giants with immense surveillance capabilities continue to monitor and analyze their data.

Interface UX design question of the day:

Why would you put the *delete forever* option
just under the *download* option?

In other news - it's #followfriday - and I am following back authors, infosec and psyops peeps. Thx

In this time of heavily curated misinformation, keep in mind that it is pretty easy to fake anything right now with almost no effort at all. And also way too easy to discredit real information.

Meanwhile, here is a nice Victorian era snap of some ladies having their portrait taken.. on an iPhone. 😶

I am giving this my "*most* surrealist-yet-strangely observant post that I have encountered today" award.

If you are an #author or a bookstore or just a reader - please feel free to follow this author feed I have created. It finds any posts across Bluesky which includes the word "author" (no hashtag required).

Any ideas for improvement welcomed.

Many thanks to you all.

Although the #AI originally drew this. If anyone can explain what it thinks it drew - that would be great.

We have a total of 12kw heating/cooling across 3 zones. Theoretically can pull around 3.8kw of power to generate 12kw of heat - but actually usually ticks over at well under a kw per hour when maintaining a temperature.
