For my whole career l've been passionate about translating digital / video textures to printed surfaces, from the glowing phosphor dots of a CRT screen to the corrupted pixels of a damaged JPEG; aesthetics that were born in spaces of subtractive RGB light but can become something different altogether when adapted to the additive CMYK ink process of print. I love video screens - especially CRT screens - because they are aliens in our space. They bring their own backlight, transmit their own world; they are manufactured portals operating independently of the environment they are placed in. But now that we spend so much time looking into those portals, crisper and more hyper-saturated than ever before, scrolling algorithmically-served images more minuscule than how the vast majority of art has been seen throughout human history, I find myself more appreciative than ever of art and media that can step out of those tiny portals and exist in the same physical space as me; whether it's a vinyl record, a VHS tape, a t-shirt, a coffee table art book, a little Nintendo Switch cartridge I'm annoyingly particular about seeking out over a digital copy, or the latest print edition of The Onion in my mailbox. Anyway, that's a long way of saying I think it's neat to put digital glitches on paper and fabric and stuff you can hold. As the old internet gets flooded with trash, social media increasingly isolates us, algorithms replace humans, and tech companies become exhaustingly hostile to user experience, we are seeing a new wave of offline tangibility: Physical media resurgences, print zines, dumb devices, in-person experiences. Although I'll always create art that is born in the alien voids of screens, I'll keep finding new ways to bring it out of the portal, and into your world.
