My husband and I at our vow renewal. I made my whole outfit (including the wings, though that's not sewing) and his feather-mantled cape!

damn this selfie is fabulous. Brought out my #vaarsuvius cosplay from order of the stick for @convergencecon.bsky.social this weekend and six people knew who I was! I even made a friend about it. Makes me want to bring them to cvg again next year!

Bird husband! First alcoholic drink of the night, by request of my roommate who is also a man of taste (helluva boss fan). Was wanting one myself so I doubled the recipe and poured his into the Nice champagne flute.

I used my nice gin for it -- dunord dry gin! Will try later with my cheap gin

Then the bane of my existence: puff and pane sleeves.

Four layers of sleeve: a foundation, the contrast, and a lining and outer fabric for panes.

I made the outer two layers from stretch to get rid of some white scuba in my stash (top is same fabric)

Upside: entire sleeve is from stash!
A green piece of fabric with four channels sewn onto it: three vertical and one horizontal A sewn bright blue puffy sleeve with a darker blue spot on it A partially completed magical girl vaporeon costume on a dress form. Puff and pane sleeves are in progress. The white top is mostly done. Green foam seashells peek out from the neckline. The teal waist cinch has the darker teal details but still isn't finished. A petticoat sits unfinished over the bottom half of the cinch. Some sewn pieces of fabric before they're turned inside out. They are white and vaguely column shaped.

The top! I always have trouble with my armholes so after attempting a flavor of full bust adjustment I just worked it out on the actual final top! 😅 I know more about armholes now so in the future I shouldn't have that telltale ripple of "this chick needs a full bust adjustment"

Very few photos of it but I also whipped up a petti for this cosplay. I really do want to compete in it at some point. For AMKE I didn't finish the bottom yet but the seams are all finished. I should have made it from netting as tulle isn't as strong but it's at least pretty!
A dress form with a teal waist cinch and a diaphonous three layer tulle petticoat. The dress form and petti, now with a proper yoke and waistband on the petti.

Took this just now -- no build is complete without some sort of mistake! I could've looked up a seashell template but I wanted to work through it myself. My first thought was to widen the top of the cup pattern and pinch it on top -- but this is basically a cup trying too hard to be a shell lol
A green craft foam creation made of four pieces. The bottom is a typical breast cup pattern but the top is scalloped. Very weirdly scalloped. Looks more like a weird hand than a seashell.

I was so focused on just getting these made I barely took photos -- the seashell cups are actually a regular boob cup with a partial seashell shape on top -- so cup is foundation, shell is decoration. You'll see later in the photos of the painted shells what I mean.

I also dip dyed some 4 way stretch fabric for the faux thigh highs! I didn't make them in time for AMKE but I have the fabric set aside and ready for when I can make them!

Since I had a dye pot with blue synthetic dye simmering, I also dipped the wig real quick. I'll probably do another dip dye later, as the final result was too subtle for my liking. Also will incorporate some teal in the middle.

After initial cinch work, it was Saturday so I switched gears to a part i was very excited for: the flowy gradient sleeves! I cut and did the first part of a French seam, and dyed away to my hearts content! This project really made me realize how much I love to dye things.
Two white trapezoid shaped pieces of chiffon on a messy wood floor A piece of white chiffon that fades to pink on the bottom A piece of chiffon that is blue on top, light blue in the middle, and pink on the bottom. The delineations are stark, but the fabric is wet which makes colors darker. The chiffon, now dry, pinned vaguely to where sleeves would be on a dress form. The boundaries between colors are much softer on dry fabric.

Also had my first oopsie: while assembling the lining, I sewed the side piece on upside down. I almost made the same mistake on the outer shell, but thankfully caught it while pinning.
Purple satin sewn into partial lining for a waist cinch. There are arrows drawn on the photo indicating the direction of each piece, and unfortunately one arrow is pointing up while the others point down. They should all be oriented in the same direction. Oops! Two pieces of teal satin partially sewn into a waist cinch, with a third piece of fabric pinned in the same wrong direction as the lining in the other photo. Lucky this was caught before sewing!

Got everything cut out last night (4 layers!), applied interfacing and my mock coutil (just some cotton) to the teal shell
Teal, violet, and white fabric cut out into waist cinch shapes in a pile Teal satin cut to waist cinch pattern shapes with white fabric peeking out from behind the pieces where hasty cutting made interfacing and foundation fabric be a bit larger than the teal pieces

I had some blue satin in my stash from a Shining Armor that never happened for my hubs. I want it gone so I dyed it teal. Super pleased with the dye job, it's not much darker while still being tinted. Initially used just teal dye, realized I should add yellow for a green dye bath.
Royal blue satin haphazardly thrown on a messy hardwood floor Two bottles of Rit synthetic dye: one tropical teal, one daffodil yellow. Blue fabric submerged in a dye bath in a stockpot, stirred with a wooden dowel. Take note: never use cookware that has been used for dye for food. Once something was used for dye, it is forever a dye utensil or container. Teal satin fabric, crinkly from the hot dye bath. The crinkles make it the fabric be reminiscent of water.
