I wrote a review (in Czech) of the popular science book The Language Game from Chater and Christiansen. It's a good intro, which mainly takes the viewpoint of evolution and communication and contrasts with Pinker's The Language Instinct. Recommended for teaching intros!

For sure! To be honest, my field is rather small (psycholinguistics and experimental pragmatics), so it's not that difficult to track mostly everyone who is active in some way, or at least most of the labs.

The English English "half two" confused the hell out of me when I arrived to the country for my undergrad. That's because my first language of Czech has a very similar construction translating to "half of two", but instead of 2:30 it means 1:30!

One of the (many) reasons I love the 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries is that they still maintain this on screen in accordance with how people talked then and how Austen wrote it, e.g. "Oh look, Charlotte is come!"
