if I didn’t get jokes, lacked street smarts, didn’t do things exactly like my drill instructor teachers then I was an error in the system. I still get flash backs from middle school when my art teacher would berate me from not using her drawing methods. I would break down crying in class.

I feel the same way regarding the f slur. if people want to reclaim slurs then that’s totally fine. I’m also homosexual who’s androgynous/gender flexible ( masculine hardware, feminine software). But the f word makes me shiver. Hell, I even have trouble using the word “gay”. I identify as Queer.

Yeah, as a person with a mental disability/ variant and who had trouble socializing and following instructions in school I was often labeled “Asspie” or called “Retardo” by my peers and parents. So I don’t really see the appeal in reclaiming slurs. But to each their own.

I want to be a teacher/ professor in modern nuclear physics but if you go the public school route you are beholden to school administrators who try to implement mind numbing procedures to create docile drones. And higher education is largely inaccessible to the populace.

I’m passionate about academia and I fostering a culture of intellectualism and passionate curiosity in general but I feel like the factory model of schooling to be beyond inadequate in meeting students creative and intellectual needs. I would love to open up a school like Somerville.
