Due to the special nature of this engagement, our regular format will vary: the presentation will be 40 minutes in length, followed by up to 20 minutes of Q&A with those in attendance. Join the conversation in the chat throughout the webinar.

In his webinar presentation, he will explain how the current situation for rhinos led to this project, how it works, radiation protection considerations for this work, and how to support the project.

James is an Adjunct Professor and the Director of the Radiation and Health Physics Unit (RHPU) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), the lead institution for The Rhisotope Project.

This initiative introduces trace, non-harmful amounts of radioisotopes into rhino horns to make them detectable by routine radiation monitors at borders and ports to deter trafficking. Following multi-year safety and feasibility studies, the project went live this year.
