I taught myself to register some amount of subtext, but I pretty much always reject it because it generally pisses me off when I do notice it, and it just feels like if they aren't going to give it the weight of saying it out loud, then what can they do if I willfully ignore it?

When people say that autistic people are literal minded, for example, I think it's generally more useful to say that we assume you mean what you say, and we despise subtext. If you want to say something, just come out and say it so we can address it directly!

This goes along with a theory I have that there is likely a correlation between the people (myself included!) who have a strained relationship with the church and those who are neurodivergent.
