ok this reminds me of the other thing i wondered about but didn't want to spoil, if you talk to the dog does she follow you around town in the original game too? at first i thought "ha, that's a cute touch" but then when i solved the puzzle i was like "oh my god that's the best"

i guess what i'm trying to say is that for me the part of the game after you get the boat and are trying to figure out what's going on in all these places you can suddenly reach excited me like almost nothing i've ever played. it's a bigger and much stranger dq1 right then, i absolutely adore it

in the gbc version, on the island with the coliseum, there's a fortune teller (who i imagine might not be in the original versions but don't know). she told me, "what you're looking for is to the south"

there's definitely a point where you have nothing to buy and it kinda makes sense to just throw yourself at it till stuff works out

oh it's INCREDIBLY notorious as i understand, it's toned down a lot in remakes but still harsh. it's believed there was supposed to be another dungeon before or after the mountain pass (?) that would've smoothed it out at least a bit more but it's just a lot
