I’m not arguing in favour of ice cars, but against car centric modals in general. All cars make cities worse, more dangerous places to live. Sure EVs are better than ice cars but so many people see them as an endgame solution when they’re still cars and continue causing most of the same issues.

My money is on the worst option, whatever that may be

Cars have a place for people who can’t get around otherwise, but building around car as default makes it very hard for people who can’t drive to get around. Things like bike lanes and accessible buses enables more freedom for many more people than more cars on the road ever will.

This is not that at all. This is just changing how the things that take up way too much of our space and infrastructure budgets and limit the accessibility of our cities are powered.

Except cost, accessibility, repair ability (yes I know they’re simpler than ice cars, but they’re also a lot more locked down by manufacturers). Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we should be denying the benefits of EVs. But to hold them up as a beacon of environmentalism and progress is a big miss.

EVs are better than cars but they’re not really meaningfully better than an ice car. Taking real steps like using public transit, biking, and walking, or even better pushing your local governments to invest in these modes of transportation is the only way to really improve things. EVs are still cars
