THE ROUTE

203km through Asturian mountains with 3,955m of climbing featuring one of cycling's most feared summit finishes

→ Alto La Mozqueta (6.2km @ 8.5%) - narrow and vicious
→ Alto del Cordal (5.5km @ 8.9%) - final 1.5km at 11.7%
→ L'Angliru (the Final Boss) 12km @ 10.3%, with a ramps of 23%!

→ Steep enough to form the day's escape

Main dish: Collada de Brenes (6.2km at 8.7%)
→ Narrow farm roads = chaos potential
→ Summit with 23km remaining

60km valley roads between climbs for regrouping

Flat opening 140km sets up a potential hard fight for the break

Summit finish:
→ Opening 7.4km hits 7.4% gradient
→ Final 9.3km climb averages 6.3%

→ Port del Cantó: 24.6km at 4.4% (starts steep at 8% for 6km)

→ Cerler finale: 11.8km at 5.9% (finishing at 1910m altitude)

→ Puerto Exiles straight from the gun (5.7km at 5.5%)
→ Col de Montgenèvre follows quickly (7.9km at 6.1%)
→ Col du Lautaret (9.2km at 5.1%)
Then 130km of rolling terrain to a tricky uphill finish

The 80th Vuelta a España begins! Opening sprint stage through northern Italy with one climb early on, then a long flat run to the finish. First chance to grab stage glory and slip into red 🔴
