Trump and Musk are both malignant narcissists, or more likely sociopaths, and they can only get along for long under certain conditions. What's happening now was a matter of when, not if. It just has to do with the fact neither can accept someone else being first.

Also the nozzles on the engines on the booster stage get roasted as it comes back to the launch site. And there's no easy way to replace those. Plus with the new engines, Raptor 2 and even moreso with Raptor 3, the way the engines are built makes repairs really hard.

Also the launch was on all three networks, meaning anyone in the country with TV could watch it.
