INSET Part 6:

Over the next few days, we will repeat some of these reflections with our children; reminding them of the importance of relationships, of our restorative practice, of safety - they’ll make keyrings and Little Bags of Safety.

So excited to meet all of our new EYFS children tomorrow.

Hopefully they’re all tucked up, fast asleep dreaming dreams full of love and excitement and learning and adventures.

I’m off to put my confetti under my pillow.

INSET Part 5:

And finally, we thought about GUNNEN: a Danish word with no direct English translation but that describes the act of genuinely wishing someone well, finding happiness in their success, granting something without envy - the opposite of being begrudging or jealous.

INSET Part 4:

OLEILU, a Finnish word, means to relax and just be, encouraging us to take responsibility for our mental and emotional wellbeing and self-care.

We added blue beads to represent STICKING TOGETHER and purple beads to represent MAKING MEMORIES.

INSET Part 3:

The Norwegian word, SAERLING, refers to an eccentric, unconventional or individualistic person who stands apart from the crowd:

We then thought about OMOIYARI: a Japanese concept embodying selfless compassion and consideration for others, thinking about others gently and acting with kindness and a warm heart.

I know sometimes parents wonder what we do in INSET days. The truth is that we do all sorts of different things. Just thought it would be good to share some of what we did this week with you.

Such a lovely day visiting all our new EYFS children and families to deliver exciting packages!

It so special to see smiling and welcoming (and sometimes very surprised!) faces.

Our children feel free to be who they are and to have a lot of fun because that's what the grown ups around them model!

And because we have created a safe space where they are confident and feel loved and respected.

(The shoes were a jokey gift from a child!)

As well as best wishes, love and all the support they have needed and wanted over the past 7 years to enable them to grow and develop into the incredible young people they are, we give our Year 6 children a pencil case full of everything they’ll need for Year 7 as they leave us.

All of our children have come home with a bag full of love today.

In it are some activities and things to occupy them over the summer; a reading challenge, some YESquests to do, a bookmark to create, a postcard to update tomorrow let us know what you’re doing, a pencil and some crayons.

How the week started and how it’s finished!

These Y6 children have been superb this week: respectful, committed, determined and positive.

As usual, just a reminder to our Year 6 pupils before they start their tests on Monday. They have their own paper copy to keep forever.

But it’s a good reminder to all of us that we are more than the sum of our parts and definitely more than a single feature.

Happy International Women’s Day.

I’m grateful to all those whose shoulders I’m able to stand on and privileged that others may consider standing on mine in the future.

We celebrated Valentine’s Day by declaring our love for the planet.

It’s also important to celebrate love for each other.

All of our children wrote what they loved about someone else in their class. That meant that everyone was reminded that they were loved and valued.

We have been learning about Poland as our country of the week this week.

Agape are so lucky as one of their children has Polish heritage and, despite them being poorly and not coming to school today, their mum baked and cooked and shopped and brought them a Polish picnic feast to try out!
