Positive from both sides of ‘dining across the divide’ in Saturday’s guardian too.

What about dividends?

Feels like so many have been biting their lips for so long.

my mum and her brothers wrote a fake letter to my nan (1970’s Liverpool) telling her she would have to house Idi Amin refugees thinking she would go mad. Instead she was really excited to help and started getting the house ready.

When I worked in a betting shop at Uni, the biggest pile of failed tickets was on a Saturday - a double for match score and first scorer- everyone thought it was easy but we rarely had a winner. In shop slot machine also devastating for young men.

I feel like they didn’t want to provide big new white painted roundabouts as it was almost inviting a repeat when they had started fading but there was no acknowledgement by the MP that it was more than vandalism. Local councillor also recently had to scrub a swastika off the path.

I wrote to the local councillor about the roundabouts and flags. She was as upset as I was. Also wrote to Lisa Nandy as she is my MP and lives very nearby. I was told that they had decided not to remove the ‘vandalism’ in line with other councils around the country.

They must be absolutely digging into everything about him/his past to find more than the boob story.

Absolutely. Excellent local school my youngest is in has been pushing STEM and apprenticeships for the last two years. Son says they barely mention university or the arts in a careers context.

Yes Zia was gutted

Weird that Denham got to stop the conversation to patronisingly pull up Zack on his debating style.

I don’t think they’d field an MP in Wigan that people would vote for. It will be either Reform, a v right wing councillor who may stand as an independent or Nandy. I think it would be more likely to go Tory than Green. Sad times but even LW people here have major concerns on immigration and drugs

In Wigan the reform candidate who manages 3 HMO’s was supported and elevated by a problematic independent to the right of Reform who is a GBeebies regular and Tommy Robinson fangirl. He won with over 1,000 votes in a 30% turnout.

It was busier at Pride.

The failure to clearly push back on the toxicity around d the immigration and asylum debate is difficult to stomach.

Agree I live in Wigan and I don’t feel he would win in Leigh or even Gorton at the moment.

I have joined this morning. Labour have not been brave enough to challenge the narrative on immigration.

Most violence against women is committed by men known to the victim. Our local paper’s ‘week in court’ is full of partners stalking, assaulting and strangling women and a report showed Wigan has the worst domestic violence in the whole of Greater Manchester. Yet if you read the comments section…

In the same way that anti vaxxers can con people because they don’t remember how bad the diseases were, those in middle age today don’t remember fascism in our doorstep. We are underestimating the threat of the far right and our leaders are appeasing fascists.

Plenty of non-conformists there nowadays and whole colleges that don’t get involved with Union etc.

Musk was projected inciting violence in London on Saturday with no action.

He was so condescending saying ‘well done-good decision to come into the studio’ at the end. He was just as patronising to Sultana when she was on.
September 3, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Same in Wigan. And the roundabouts. So upsetting. We’ve also had a swastika in chalk on the path that a local councillor had to clean up.
