Had a fantastic time in Paris last week participating in a workshop for the FAO exploring how #ScienceCommunication can help facilitate transformation of agrifood systems. Looking forward to the upcoming issue paper!
TABLE's Rachel Headings participated in this workshop on agrifood systems transformation and we're very much looking forward to the paper coming out later this year!
Just wrapped up an insightful workshop we co-organized with the @sciencecouncil.bsky.social on science communication for agrifood systems transformation. Stay tuned for our upcoming joint issue paper later this year! @fao.org @carbonbrief.org @tabledebates.bsky.social @thinink.bsky.social

How can policy and practice support capacity building for chefs & professional cooks for food system change?

Shiela Dillon from BBC Radio 4's #TheFoodProgramme chairs the final panel at #CityFoodSymposium2025

Professional cookery is the forgotten industry. So what would it take to integrate it with #foodsystems skills, knowledge, policy and thinking?

Excited to explore this and more today at #CityFoodSymposium2025!

Should the future of food systems be led from the bottom up?

We posed this vision to a diverse group of policymakers, community leaders, philanthropists, & academics.

We've published a report about what they agreed & disagreed on--& how to move toward food system transformation:

150 Nobel & World Food prize laureates believe agricultural R&D developed by the Global North to boost food production in Global South is the answer to world hunger.

The power of Northern institutions to reproduce these broken narratives is something.

Policy processes are designed to be complex, slow-moving and difficult so the status quo is maintained. Transparency is a lofty goal but in practice decisions are often made behind closed doors. To affect urgent, transformative change, prioritise being part of those decisions!
How did sugar taxes get passed? Simple, just by keeping them secret until the budget and not telling industry to they wouldn't lobby! The result? Businesses easily reformulated drinks with less sugar and large health benefits

Synthesis and analysis of diverse works about power in the food system. 👇

"This wealth of meanings around food means it engages ‘power’ in the most diverse sense. It also means that the potential reach of the power(s) in question is universal - no-one remains untouched."
Over the course of our working theme on power in the food system, we heard many definitions & opinions of what power is and how it influences the food we eat.

We've boiled down our findings into a new summary.

I enjoyed this @tabledebates.bsky.social podcast on how and why fossil fuels became so central to food systems, from production to distribution to cooking. But in terms of what comes next, I think it suffers from what I like to call the limits of "agroecological solutionism." A thread... 1/

#FueltoFork tackles the big questions around the role that fossil fuels play in our food system.
