I left entirely, thoroughly exhausted in body, but completely & utterly revved up in mind. We are already planning our next annual SSC meeting & the #GLPOSM6 in 3 years. Thanks to you all for making it such a great one. Filled with love & gratitude for #Mexico & my science community.

In between I learned about the challenges faced by Oaxacan farmers, especially in #Mezcal value chains. I also saw inspiring women-led eco-tourism ventures & cooperative Mezcalarias carving out new approaches to marketing their wild-harvested agaves.

Our SSC meeting was no less incredible. We refreshed our governance approaches, undertook renewed leadership & excitement over our science implementation, shared our reflections on the OSM & cooked up many new science papers.

I was so proud of all of my post-docs and PhD students past & present that rocked their talks. Joss Lyons-White, Adelina Chandra, Leonie Hodel, Joyce Brandão, Prisca Kouakou, Sam Levy, & Owen Cortner. I especially loved the session on gender & land use.

The science was incredibly stimulating, especially from our openers, keynotes & plenaries: Paty Balvenera, Edu Brondizio, Meha Jain, Pedro Brancalion, Patrick Meyfroidt, Esteve Corbera, & so many more!

So many hours went into this meeting & of course there were things we could have done better, but I still think we hit it out of the park. I had a blast reconnecting with old friends & meeting bright new PhD students from around the world that I had never met in person.

Our local steering committee Martha Bonilla-Moheno, Iván A. Ortiz-Rodríguez, & Susana Alejandre Ortiz definitely brought the party & as PhD student Pablo Gonzalez-Moctezuma said, "The meeting makes the party & the party makes the meeting.

It was an absolute joy & privilege to work with our ED Ariane de Bremond, my SSC co-chair Navin Ramankutty, the Science lead @danielmu11er.bsky.social & an incredible set of women at the International Program Office, Rieley, Ariani, Bar, & Caitlyn.

Reflecting on the Global Land Programme

I was thrilled to take over as the Director of the UCAM Conservation Research Institute on October 1, 2024.
