Sophie Strand's new memoir is as engaging as I expected! I really respect the ecological wisdom her still-young life has led her to so inescapably and that she's been attentive.

In this week’s story, writer Nicholas Triolo walks the 140-kilometer length of the Rio Côa in central Portugal and begins to feel a wild, relational divinity in the fields of broom and the snarls of boars around him. Our sense of the earth must be sufficiently sound so that it can support the dangerous future that is calling us. It is a decisive moment. Yet we should not feel that we alone are determining the future course of events. 1/2

NEW: A UN report published this morning says that the only way to solve climate change is to realign with nature, disavow consumerism, and transform the values on which our society is built.

This is a wonderful, introductory way to orient yourself within Berry's thought - and as part of the conscious Universe.

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

I feel like we need to form a League of Relatively Normal People, and our agenda should be things like:

--Canada's cool, leave them be
--Lot of smart people at universities, that's a plus
--We're scared of getting cancer, so let's research it
--Fewer floods and wildfires would be nice

Concurrence (by Denise Levertov)

Each day's terror, almost
a form of boredom--madmen
at the wheel and
stepping on the gas and
the brakes no good--
and each day one,
sometimes two, morning-glories,
faultless, blue, blue sometimes
flecked with magenta, each
lit from within with
the first sunlight.
