What made it such a great show is that it was entertaining and layered and explicitly political with excellent music, delightful surprise guests, stunning sets, a clear narrative, a shout out to ALL of the Americas and a cameo from Belcalis.

Rest in peace, Eliezer Hirsh.

Some of my earliest memories are my mom and dad playing the grooves off the Anytime...Anywhere album, dancing in the living room. I could sing all the songs on that one.

(Lots of other albums too—Janis, The Commodores and all the great 70s.)

Many years later, I’m still waffling between being embarrassed or proud that I have not yet been inside one.

But most of my friends Costco and I’m always startled at their weekly receipt!

I first read it ~20 years ago. With horror, but also a younger-self sense of ‘glad the world made it through that, learned deep lessons’ (while also aware of contemporaneous responses to 9/11).

Reading it early this year was [[very hard]]. The fourth turning and such rattling around my mind.

Agree. The survivor remembrances carry an extra weight somehow.

Last year, I was finally able to find a used copy of Gitta Sereny’s The German Trauma.

It is a remarkable study. Adding a few pages here, related to your comment. I’ll bring it to you next time you’re out this way. (Or me back east.)

I knew someone else must have had similar thoughts. Linking here so I’ll remember after next year’s annual viewing. Thanks @emmabarry.bsky.social

The time is right for a new version of Desk Set. But EMERAC would be AI. Of course.

Mine too. An annual Christmastime tradition!

Annual Christmastime watch, for many years. Seems more relevant now than ever.

Bunny Watson versus ChatGPT. It’ll end with her reciting another epic poem. And winning, again, almost seventy years later.
