Oh sweetheart. I’m so sorry.

Lecia, didn’t you first jump into photography, like, 18 months ago?!?

I was just coming here to ask that: why is it glistening, as if he’s been oiled?

sound like they’re fully in play, from what I’ve heard—but the feminine binary at work is *always* insulting to *both* sides.
And every clip I’ve seen of Kristen Bell is so irritating.

I haven’t been able to watch it. My husband and I married 28 years ago and I converted—which was always going to happen—but I get really tired of how gentile women are portrayed in these things. Don’t get me wrong—ALL the women get hit with shrapnel, and the awful stereotypes about Jewish women

Precisely. Something anyone could wear.

I’m no misanthrope but, thanks to my Lutheran programming, every interaction is an opportunity to worry that I haven’t come off as kind, gracious or helpful enough. Being forced to cheerfully interact with 15 store employees in a single visit would leave me utterly spent and emotionally drained.

cultural specificity conveyed by every small detail means that no one should be sure about anything. “He had a black suit and hat so he’s a Jew” makes you sound like such a jackass. You might as well say, “I saw dreadlocks so arrest all the Rastafarians!”

I saved an old thread from Twitter, written by someone else, that contains an exasperated rant about the errors people make when they try to pass themselves off as knowing anything about the orthodox communities of NY. I saved it because I found it absolutely fascinating. Suffice it to say, the

The entire process is so opaque, and the stakes are so high. They don’t—or can’t, or shouldn’t—communicate what the long-term strategy is, or if there even is one.

And I can’t remember the last time we were dealing with a GOP that was ethical and not filled with monsters.

We’re all shell shocked.

So much better than Rock Me Amadeus

You jumped all over me to say that I made no sense. I’ve already said that we clearly aren’t operating with the same definitions. But you want to go a few more rounds? Look, it’s Friday night, you’ve carried the flag to the top of the ramparts, you can find another person to yell at.

There was no statistical analysis. It was just a few folks talking about how visible action is important sometimes, and you jumped in to tell them that they were “huffing bullshit.” Now you’re making assumptions about me and what I’ve dealt with. We get it. You disagree. You think everyone is dumb.

Precisely!

“Be proud of work and literacy and commitment to education, but let’s not express this in terms of innate intelligence. Let’s not use race science to explain why we’re proud of our heritage.”

I don’t know why admiration turns to resentment so quickly. I don’t know if that specific to Judaism. I just know that philosemitism is dangerous, and always becomes antisemitism. So when my students talk about how smart Jews are, and how many Nobels Jews have, I feel like I need to say a word.
November 8, 2025 at 2:40 AM
No, I got that.
November 8, 2025 at 2:37 AM
I have witnessed that with my very own eyes. In my family.
