I’ve since read that yes, this government have stated that people in France wishing to seek U.K asylum can now apply online, with the recent announcement of the “One in one out” scheme.
There are strict criteria to the new scheme.

Sadly, this does not surprise me. On posts on social media about regular immigration, even the net migration figures, all the comments show clearly that they believe every immigrant crossed the channel.

As far as I’m aware, the only way to apply for asylum in the U.K. currently, is to be here on U.K. soil to do so.
There is no way to apply for asylum here from outside the U.K.
years ago, people seeking Asylum here could apply for a Humanitarian Visa, from a foreign embassy. Then come here safely.

Good points, well made, Zoe. It’s rare that I hear this suggestion of safe routes.
When I explain it, I then add: IF anyone still crosses the channel when there is a clear safe, alternative option, then the government would be in a much stronger legal position to remove them.
