Hey there #JewishLife on #HigherEd campus folks. IMHO, Jewish communities need to support Jewish life at public institutions of higher education. Hillel at @umassamherst.bsky.social is stellar. Give 2day & if they reach 150 donors, there's a bonus. All gifts matched to 20k.

Just remembering how much I love this parokhet (curtain for the ark holding the Torah scrolls) and its story of female agency and spirituality. And #memory. #JewishHistory #earlymodern #JewishHistory #HerStory #MaterialCulture sharedhistoryproject.org/object/plohn...

Matt's a cantor, and writing a PhD on the history of chazzanut (Jewish cantorial singing), so he's quite informative on the appearance of musical notation in one of these books, extremely unusual for Jews of the time.

I was today years old when it occurred to me to ask: when did "the Jewish bookshelf" / "ארון הספרים היוהדי" evolve from a physical object (of reverence, in Mahanayim July 5, 1966) to an abstract concept allow secular Israelis a connection to Jewish heritage. #JewishStudies #bookhistory 1/

A #Jewish woman had dress made into a Torah ark curtain-parokhet in #Prague after her death. A bereft Christian mother sent silk for a vestment-chasuble in her daughter's memory in #Frankfurt. Know similar? #earlymodern #JewishHistory #WomenAlsoKnowHistory sharedhistoryproject.org/essay/few-ex...
