2/ I’ve been munching on this with my students some and would love to get some thoughts: what does it look like to create a school that kids feel supported and that they want to show up every day? What is working well at your schools?

1/ It’s easy to talk about attendance punitively but that does little to solve problems. My school had a 60+% chronically absent rate last year. Many of my students face some real barriers getting to school, and the culture around attendance naturally brings some would be regular attenders down.

Nothing like going to school the day after a school shooting and a shooting occurs outside your own school that very morning (with a student the target and bullets striking the building).
