Queer artist living in Appalachia 🖤
The opening for “Love Letters” was a magical night. Getting to see all this work, all these stories, hung together was a beautiful moment of love and queer joy. You can see the entire collection at The Gallery at 2265

Drumroll, please!
The day is fast approaching for this show. What a great way to start off #Pride month, by coming to see art all about Appalchian queer women painted by a queer woman. And at a time where pride feels all the more important

“Self Portrait In Yellow”
It seemed only right that I include a self portrait for this body of work focusing on queer Appalachian women. As I’ve slowly taken in these stories and converted other’s spoken word into paintings, golden butterflies have become a theme.

“Boxed In”

I’ve been having so many emotions based around my womanhood and queerness under the thumb of our current administration. I advocate through the “proper” channels, but what I really want to do is show just how trapped, feral, and angry I am.

“Laid Bare”
For those times when we cannot love ourselves…
There have been so many times that I cannot even stand to look at myself in the mirror, yet Sarah continues to love me through it all. Anchoring me to the earth, lest I fall away.

“The Unparted”

I started this piece just before Valentine’s Day with the over ambitious hope that it would be done in time for the holiday. Life had other plans, but better late than never!

“Wolf in the Garden”
I was extremely lucky to get to talk to a human with an incredibly interesting life story to base this piece around. She shared a truly unique perspective that was inspiring and insightful 🖤

“Losing What We Have Left”

I would be lying to say that the hate spread by our current administration isn’t playing into my work for my upcoming show. How could it not? Every happy moment painted is tinged with fear and worry for the future of quiet, happy, queer moments.

Not only am I making a body of work that feels extremely important these days, but I’m also getting to meet and talk with amazing Appalachian women! Melissa and I got to know each other through my work, and getting to include her story in my paintings is a true gift 🖤
