So...now the barnstorming games will be BEFORE the regular season? But what about the players who will also be in the World Cup?

Who is flying this plane???

They say country music is three chords and the truth, but only a few people sing like they embody that and Mark Currey is one of them. His recent EP Only Sky is full of characters in search of redemption, and Currey makes you believe in the concept all anew.

You know that feeling where you HAVE to tell everyone who even might care a little bit?

Big Ugly by @Fust is one of the best albums I've heard all year. Achingly beautiful, describing simple longings and pleasures and pride of place with unapologetic Southern idioms.

REVIEW: Mariel Buckley's new album has been haunting me all week -- and I'm glad we can all experience I together. For @NoDepression, I explore the ways in which Buckley's harder edges make for an album that is comforting in spite of its raw vulnerability.

This dog does not seem to understand that I took the day off and has spent the last hour trying to get me out of bed to make breakfast

(But I'm up at 7:30 cuz my wife made me coffee. How could I refuse?)

A huge thank-you to @NoDepression.bsky.social for giving me space to ruminate on the revolutionary potential of queer country for all of us.

In the article, I discuss Julien Baker & Torres; the Indigo Girls; Heather Littlefield and, of course, Lavender Country

What do we think, chat?

(Text reads: If Bro Country is what you call current guy country what is the equivalent for the current women’s music ? Just curious 🧐)

REVIEW: Cam's new album All Things Light transcends genre and time -- a love letter to humanity's capacity for the divine...and the need to stay down to earth. Read my review on @NoDepression.bsky.social!

If you haven't checked out The Barlow's new album High Spirits, do it now. They're the real deal rough-and-tumble country rock and they're only getting better on High Spirits. These are stories of fucking up, trying again, and fucking up anyway -- and they'll keep you going on long nights.

My hosting plan for Adobe & Teardrops expires on Monday and I won't be renewing it. I've started a second job on top of my day job and @RainbowRodeo.bsky.social is feeling like a very urgent project right now. Please follow me there for my album reviews!

In his last few outings, @JohnCalvinAbney.bsky.social has brought us to vast new solar systems of cosmic music, but Shortwaving is a return to earth of sorts. The EP is one half blues and one half meditative jam. Shortwaving is world-weary but beautiful.

@BeauJennings.bsky.social keeps it simple on American Stories and Major Chords, a collection of no-frills singer-songwriter tales. He surveys all the sacrifices we make when we commit ourselves to our calling …and finding satisfaction in sticking with it.

Might As Well Be Ghosts is @ToddFarrellJr's best album to date in a string of gobsmackers. Ghosts refuses to consider any aspect of life a waste of time, and takes pleasure in the paths less traveled, and the hold music has on us all.

Micah Schnabel is one of my all-time favorites and The Clown Watches the Clock finds him blistering and unsparing, unashamed to discuss the humiliation of poverty that tortured artists only glamorize if they’ve never had to live it.
