I turned some stickers into magnets to bypass my sticker-use anxiety.

A neat row of classic green and yellow John Deere tractors are lined up in mowed green grass. The years of the tractors are painted on the sides in yellow, ranging from 1934 to 1947.

A fence post cactus sits near a slightly open window shade, getting a little sun with its nearby potted plant friends. The cactus has grown a thin extension that increases it by more than double its original height. The extension is not a straight line, but wiggles around like a rising charmed snake. With needles.

I have outwalked two thunderstorms in as many weeks, and therefore will learn nothing about choosing wisely when I walk.

Can it float? No.

Is it impressive? Yes.

Does it symbolize how decadent the late-Qing dynasty was (at the expense of its own navy) just before China fell into decades of turmoil? Also yes.

Also, it's a tourist attraction today.

I had the chance to see lemurs up close at the Duke Lemur Center in North Carolina. Apparently they do just fine in the NC woods, but some are critically endangered.

These are the ring-tails and the Coquerel's sifaka (the one that jumps sideways to walk). Also saw some mongoose lemurs.
An adult female ring-tailed lemur is tucked up in a V-shaped tree branch, her long tail curled around her. She is looking at the camera and surrounded by pale green leaves. An adult Coquerel's Sifaka lemur squats on the ground with its hands on its knees, looking contemplative. It has white fur on its head and back, and brown fur on its stomach, with a black face and round yellow eyes. A juvenile Coquerel's sifaka lemur holds onto a vertical sapline trunk with both hands and feet. Its long white tail stretches down parallel to the tree. You can clearly see the bright white fur on its back and the dark brown fur on its arms. An adult pair of ring-tailed lemurs pauses near a chain-link fence. The male is on the left, laying down on his side and looking lazy. The female is standing on hands and feet in front of him, her ring-tail up and curved like a question mark as she looks toward the camera.

I return from the desert.

Probably no better or wiser than I was, but maybe know just a little more about myself.
