The Nyxia triad by Scott Reintgen! Two middle grade series that I also think he'd love with excellent worldbuilding and adventure are The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness (first book is Wolf Brother) and Gregor the Overlander (same author as the hunger games so there are some heavy themes later on).
