For five years now I have been collaborating with the Rome Guide and architectural historian Agnes Crawford and together we lead walking tours, which always end with a v good lunch. Our next one is on the 6th of May and our itinerary is based around 10 films. More, + booking in Agnes’s substack.

Vincenzo Corrado’s 1781 paean to vegetables is far from vegetarian, lively & inspiring. It includes a short recipe for tomato sauce; even suggests putting the sauce with pasta! This is the book I wrote about as part of @vittles.bsky.social ace and rewarding cookbook supplement

The clever lemon pudding from @annatascalanza - zest and lemon juice, sugar, cornstarch, eggs & water cooked with constant whisking until thick- like-custard. It sets more in fridge & tastes like lemon curd crossed w/ jelly, blancmange and sucking a slice of lemon. Recipe in @guardianfeast archives

Sally Grainger’s work bringing ancient recipes to life is usually quite academic, but this new addition holds her writing and recipes in an almost playful useful way: they really are ancient recipes for modern life. wonderful illustrations by Joana Avillez.
