It’s confounding the brain trust of smart people that want to change the world for the better, but the system has either squashed their spirit (sometimes thru sheer overwhelm) or made the opposite worldview palatable/desirable/inevitable.

So I wonder if doing research to earn a PhD will help me be a more effective changemaker?

I already do activism, including extinction rebellion in NYC, but it’s limited since I have young children.

So I pivoted to advocacy to elect climate champions on local/state level and pass laws that would make my job easier (& the planet cleaner) in the long run. But even my masters degree in enviro sciences doesn’t seem sufficient to impress lawmakers. It’s also not enough to teach college courses.

Saved all the articles to read up on! I’m coming from the opposite side and find it hard as well. I’ve been doing zero waste consulting and education in NYC for 6 years and making real change is harder than I thought because it relies on who’s in power and how they prioritize zero waste goals. …
