You may have seen #Zoox robo taxis rolling around SF, Foster City and Vegas lately. There’s no steering wheel or pedals. Some on reddit describe them as mini toasters on wheels. They’re notable in another way, too. They’re manufactured in Hayward. www.kqed.org/news/1206472... via @kqednews.kqed.org

🧵Some of the companies that make the artificial stone make alternative products that don't involve so much toxic silica dust, but unlike Australia, which has BANNED the bad stuff, California ... dawdles, slow walks the decision making process.

Most of us are familiar with two kinds of persimmon: the apple-sized, crunchy Fuyu and the bulbous Hachiya, best enjoyed when it’s so ripe, it’s gooey. I'm going to go out on a limb here and argue there's an even BETTER persimmon, available only at farms and farmers' markets.

In 1923, a fire tore through Berkeley, destroying roughly 600 homes, including many by architect Bernard Maybeck. Years before, he was already a big fan of concrete (see his 1910 First Church of Christ, Scientist, now a national landmark). But the fire -er- cemented his love of fireproof materials.

45 years ago, a Sacramento woman founded Mothers Against Drunk Driving after her 13-year-old was struck and killed in Fair Oaks. So why, in MADD's home state is there a spike in alcohol-related roadway deaths? "We do give people their licenses back certainly more quickly than a lot of other places."

Anybody else? iOS 26 feels like Apple saw Windows Vista and thought, “Yes. That’s the vibe.” Instead of simplicity/delight, I'm searching Dr. Google daily to determine what menus to wade through to do what one swipe used to, like settings have been re-designed by twelve committees who never met. 🙆🏻‍♀️

🧵 When you’re talking to a human, whether it’s a parent, or a teacher, therapist, friend, frenemy, enemy, humans have bullshit monitors. We’re hardwired to see through other people’s bullshit. Conversely, we’re not very good at seeing through our own bullshit.

The techbro-li-gopoly has been making headlines daily for its enthusiastic involvement in the second Trump administration. But if the c-suites of many Silicon Valley companies have swung solidly to the right, many rank and file employees have not.
