LVFC isn't the first BIPOC led progressive fur con to embrace these ideas, that would have to go to Harvest Moon Howl Fest which unfortunately failed due to reasons that are still unclear to this day. However, it was the first to implement them & prove that they work & can be successful.

The Fandom has always been political. Period. It started as a radically inclusive community for LGBTQ+ people & anthro animal art that was more risque than the clean sanitized art that was common during that time. The Fandom was the definition of weird, which is being lost in the past few years.

What we need is a true alternative that empowers working class marginalized Furries & give them a seat at the table to ensure the gains made by the 1% over the past few decades also go to the 99% who for far too long have been left to fight over scraps while the rich keep getting richer.

When young & marginalized Furries get attacked & bullied out of the "mainstream" Fandom for relatively small mistakes, they start looking for groups who will accept them, with the Furry Raiders propagandizing that the Fandom is "too woke", hates Republicans & they're the "solution".

The reason we as a Fandom are seeing the rise of fascist & Nazi fur groups like the Furry Raiders is because of the establishment more worried about "keeping the peace" & "not starting drama" (which still happens in the Fandom). Too many Furries don't believe the system is working for them anymore.

Those who claim to be "apolitical" (who are often conservative to far right & say so to hide their bigotry) love to claim the Fandom today is "too political" & divisive, whitewashing Furry history by claiming it wasn't political at the start in the 90s when it's the opposite.

No one represents this more perfectly than former FurAffinity owner Dragoneer (who sadly passed away in August 2024 due to American Healthcare prioritizing profit over care). While he was the reason that FurAffinity became what it is today, it has also declined significantly in the past few years.

Garden State Fur The Weekend & more recently Furnal Equinox are an embarrassment to the Fandom, actively silencing progressive antifascist voices while at the same time platforming Nazis, Fascists and hate. Nazi Furs and sympathizers have not and will never be welcome in our Fandom.

I think we all need to ask the question: Who is GSFTW for? liberals & everyone on the left don't want to attend since they refused to ban Nazi furs, conservatives don't want to attend since they banned Nazi furs after overwhelming pressure. What does that leave? "UwU no politics" Furries?
