Pretty sure I’m right about:

- RFC 3339 dates
- ISO 216 paper sizes
- Fahrenheit weather temperatures
- Dot-grid paper
- End-to-end encryption
- Software engineering being about collaboration costs

Less confident about the rest.

The border is imo the best example of Dems trying to signal their moral superiority not just over Republicans, but over the median voter. And maybe they were! But that’s the Dem formula for losing elections.

If government can’t help businesses coordinate by enacting and enforcing legislation, then there is another option: those businesses can form a cartel.

Do we think the cartel, once formed, will restrict itself to discouraging bribery?

To reiterate: I don’t at all forgive Noem’s insane story about what sounds like a perfectly fine dog that just wasn’t (yet) good at its job. But a pol calling a 14-month-old a puppy hits me like calling a teenager a toddler: just blatantly deceptive. 3/3

When we said “puppy” we pretty explicitly meant “not big enough to be dangerous”. (This matters a lot when you work with a lot of bully breeds. And former bait dogs.) Ie completely untrained puppies were annoying but fine. A completely out-of-control 14-month-old…a problem. 2/3

I realize we’re just circling around casual use of language here, but would you ever actually call a 14-month-old a “puppy” instead of just “young” or “adolescent” or a “pup”? At the shelters I’ve worked with, “puppy” had a pretty specific meaning… 1/3

If anything says “America First”, it’s deepening our entanglements in the Middle East. I see no way this could ever cause problems.

Passports are now linked to a whole bunch of biometric data (and, of course, a photo). The idea that gender is how they’re going to spot an imposter is deeply, deeply weird.

I’m not at all defending writing off a dog as untrainable at 14 months. I am, however, calling BS on trying to pretend a 14-month-old working dog looks like a puppy.

Both sides here seem to be pretending normies don’t know anything about dogs.

Folks on this very thread have cited scientific consensus that you’re wrong.

That’s a perfectly reasonable attitude. Noem writing this as though it’s a normal way to treat working dogs is…super disturbing. One more in a genre of “conservatives” passing off their dysfunctions as part of an invented foreign culture coastal elites refuse to understand.

You’re using an article titled “not a puppy anymore” to argue dogs that age are still puppies?
November 18, 2025 at 4:55 PM
Meh; “done growing” is a little sketchy. They bulk up a bit in their second years, but their skeletons are full after one.

We all know what a puppy looks like. It’s incredibly disingenuous to claim a fourteen-month-old looks like a puppy.

I’m not defending killing dogs! But the puppy thing is BS.

It kinda feels like someone going out of their way to call Epstein’s victims “toddlers” might not be operating entirely in good faith.

Peter Falk is an amazing study in the evolution from leading-man looks to character-actor looks.
