hey all, I'm Alex 👋 I've been building for Apple platforms since 2008, most recently working with clients including mymind and Raycast.

when I'm not chasing perfect animations, haptics and interactions, I'm chasing sunlight on 35mm and digital 🌞

not to be a doomer but Apple’s modern-day OSes do more and more feel to be lacking in basic quality and stability — particularly iOS. my experience is quickly becoming a daily death by a thousand cuts

When Big American tech does it, they argue gobbling gigabytes of proprietary data is “fair use”, when someone else does it “against the terms of service”.

i wish ebooks had more character. every time i try to read one i yearn for the unique qualities of physical books: the choice of paper, the font, the typesetting. what’s stopping us from doing this?

“The imperfect, handmade character of websites has been sanded away in favor of efficiency, and social media platforms have risen in the stead of amateur sites”

also love some of the suggestions in this post about making websites more personal and unconventional

iOS App Attestation (DeviceCheck) is so cool. So many possibilities!

Not bullet proof but definitely a great tool for the tool belt.

Do you know about the take function for the Optional type? It takes the value if it is not nil and toggles the variable to nil.

SwiftUI provides us with the @ScaledMetric property wrapper which makes supporting Dynamic Type incredibly easy. It allows us to quickly scale magic numbers. When recording, I didn't realize the video was too long... so here it is as a Dropbox video: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/bewj3...
