You got it *almost* right. Taormina, where I lived 1958-68, was part of MG in strict sense (Greek colonies founded in Southern Italy from 8th century BC onward. Neapolis ("new city") was founded later by settlers from Cumae 6th c. BC. Culturally and linguistically, it was certainly a Greek city.

it could be a sensible position, though I would qualify a lot: it has more to do with abstraction and real hypostatisation.
