The great fear drilled into me as a child/young teen in the 70s / 80s is that someone like Jeffrey Epstein would kidnap you and sell you into sex service. At the same time pop culture totally glamorised being sexy/attractive/desirable to men. I am not sure what “last 15 years” changed?

I was a teen when the Calvin ads ran. They were deliberately provocative. That does not mean abuse of underage teens was “mainstream,” winked at, or accepted. Teen and pre teen styles today are quite sexual, but we widely support and enforce laws condemning sexual abuse.

John Bel Edwards, Louisiana’s last governor, a Democrat, was anti abortion but defended the Medicaid expansion. If he were to take Cassidy’s Senate seat, that would be better for the country. Not better for abortion rights, but not worse. That calculation is going to vary by location and candidate.

Democrat Jon Bel Edwards was Governor until January 2024, and he left office popular with both parties. He is more than a long shot to win statewide election if he runs.
