Bamboo is basically invasive and spreads very happily, at least in my area of the US, so I don't think growing it is the problem (unlike coffee, vanilla, and chocolate). But we don't produce bamboo fabric—or hardly any fabric, of any sort—here, and it would be very difficult to do so.

No. And it's really messed up that if you do give money, all you get for it is an increase in fundraising texts and emails! When I donate to the ACLU or to my local organizations, they don't attempt to shake me down daily while giving absolutely no indication of what my money is doing.

We are the richest, so of course we give the most! This isn't equalizing things out; it's moving us from first to last place, which has a lot of negative ramifications. I do believe there are countries who could give more than they do, and I hope some of them step up, but it's probably not enough.

I'm in NC, and it did feel like there wasn't much non-local coverage a couple days ago—but it was literally the picture on the front of the NYT print edition today! You can't get much more publicized than that. I think people stuck with their initial impressions even though circumstances changed.
