Consider the kitties. They reap not, neither do they sow.

This is the Trinity Broadcasting Network headquarters in Dallas. That’s right: a total White House replica. For King Jesus.

Because both Christian griftamentalism and Dallas needed more fucking vulgarity.

Because when my portfolio dropped to 1 percent of it's original value in the course of a couple weeks, I bucked up and asked: "Wait. What the fuck did they do with Columbus day?"

What a masterfully written, wrenching, goddamn funny book this is. Powell is better than many of her admirers, which include writers as diverse as Ernest Hemingway and Gore Vidal.

You start to suspect our somber American canon is proof against funny-as-fuck women writers.

I really enjoyed Greenblatt's book on Shakespeare and politics. I take issue with his inclusion of Coriolanus in his tyrant list, but it is otherwise a very engaging read.

"So that we end up like Europe!"

That is indeed a pressing peril. Every night I go to bed afraid I'm going to wake up to find someone has opened up a Uffizi Gallery right next door.

I nearly never read fantasy, but Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake is one of the most absorbing, delightful reading experiences in recent memory. The prose shimmers, and the action and scenery leap off the page. It's truly excellent literature.

What fantasy novels delight you?

I like this photo. The focused avoidance of human interaction or eye contact. You suspect that under "enhanced interrogation", they'd be able to remember when they could feel shame. They look as miserable as they ought to be.

I love that on a day when the US ceased to exist as a functioning republic, people could get up on their hind legs about the fact that Lauren Sanchez was showing a bit of lingerie at a gathering that included a fucking rapist who fantasizes aloud about his daughter.
