Now apparently buying a physical item doesn't allow you to keep using it infinitely either if the maker decides you broke some arbitrary rule.

Any type of remote access backdoors or kill switches like Nintendo is trying to do is very dangerous. There is no guarantee that only nintendo will use it and there is no guarantee either of them being careful with it. Plus I thought the whole point of buying physical things is so that you own it.
