love doing engine tear downs on the weekends, helps me learn more about engines! there are a million little moving parts in this hunk of iron and aluminum, all to get you to work, home, grocery stores, etc. this 4.8L v8 had an internal coolant leak.
Rocker arms and valve springs! Full of coolant-mixed oil, which is why the engine was replaced. This engine has a cam in the block which has hydraulic lifters and push rods that go all the way up to the rocker arms that we see here. Pistons! These bad boys are what turns ya wheels. There are a lot of carbon deposits here, as this engine was burning off coolant mixed oil. Stinky. This engine was well maintained with just over 300,000kms on it. The only thing preventing her from 300,000 more kms was the unpredictable failure. It bit me :( First ever stitches 😎 wasn’t super deep but it could easily open up in a dirty engine bay and is a risk of infection. Got my tetanus shot up to date as well.
