Knows the odd thing about transport
About 50 years ago, I caught 37 bus from Herne Hill to Clapham Junction, a train to Feltham and a bus to Heathrow Airport - on Christmas Day

She confuses a right of free speech with a right to be heard

When we were installing the first red route, more than 30 years ago, a seller of antique marble fireplaces objected strongly on the basis of losing passing trade.

Yes, higher frequencies are attractive and will encourage more use. But you are capacity limited to one train load of passengers without any way of increasing it. With two trains an hour you can add an extra.

It’s amazing that so many people think that basic laws of economics - such as demand and supply - don’t apply to motoring.

Time to give up your driving licence permanently

Yes they are. But they are very low capacity and expensive in that context. So good in some specific circumstances but no silver bullet

The supplementary should be: when the minister says ‘soon’ does she mean any sooner than when she said ‘soon’ six months ago?

Nor is there any evidence that offering free parking boosts local economies

But also just fear.

Could just force some additional restrictions on general traffic and, like most councillors, they are petrified that this would result in a haemorrhage of votes.

I had a good laugh. I’ve been hearing that AVs will have totally taken off in two years for quite a time now. At least for the last 10 years

Highway engineers design ( or designed) to a speed ~20mph higher than the speed limit to keep the road safe for speeding vehicles. Why are we surprised then that this encourages speeding.

Good report but it doesn’t even mention that DVLA does no validation of keeper identity even when this is supplied. Hence many cars are registered to Mickey Mouse or ‘the Mayor’ which makes them untraceable.

No, double yellow lines apply on either side of them. So it’s still unlawful parking.

When we last moved it took about 3 months to persuade some of our apps that we had stopped living at our old house. Eventually I had to get a new WiFi router

I think you are wildly overestimating the capacity of urban road networks to absorb even part of the growth in traffic you suggest might come. Unreliability in car journey times would dwarf that which currently affect buses and trains.

I’ve had a lot of dealings with politicians (and worked for many) over the last 50 years and would say most don’t lie. But over the last 10 years, some parties seem to have made lying compulsory.

Yes, but it is pointless having a bus lane operational when no buses are running. It makes it very difficult to justify enforcement.

Remove capacity for general traffic. 15% of the general traffic capacity in central London was removed in the wake of the introduction of the congestion charge there. Footway widening, cycle lanes, street trees, bus lanes all contributed.

You will only find anecdotes. But interesting that at one point IIRC Southend did free parking every day for Christmas.
